What a homeschool Mom wants for Christmas

Raise your hand if you’re all done Christmas shopping?

Well, no one in my house is raising our hands because I am so behind on Christmas presents.  A common question I get from my family around this time of year is “What do you want for Christmas?”

Here’s my answer:

Christmas presents for homeschool Mom

What a homeschool Mom wants for Christmas in her stocking

1.  Office supplies

I go through pens, pencils, and markers like nobodies business.  If you asked me for specific brands: Dixon Ticonderoga Wood-Cased #2 Pencils ,Sharpie Fine-Tip Permanent Marker, 24-Pack Assorted Colors, Vis-A-Vis Wet Erase Markers, Expo Low Odor Dry Erase markers {yes those are ridiculously specific affiliate links, but those are my favorite ones, I tend to buy during random sales at Office Max or Hobby Lobby).

2.  Lotion or Candles

Kids are smelly, it doesn’t matter how often you bathe the silly things, they manage to get messy or smelly very shortly after.  Get her something that smells nice.  I’m a BIG fan of candles.

3.  Fuzzy socks

I love fuzzy socks, I however had to outlaw my kids from giving me 5 pairs EVERY year.  I kid you not, one year I got 10 pairs of socks.  Of course over that same year I think I lost the mate to almost every pair.

What a homeschool Mom wants for Christmas that doesn’t cost much

1.  Take her kids for an afternoon.

I asked on my Facebook page, and the overwhelming answer was “time to myself,” take her kids for an hour or two.  She will bless you forever.  Cost: free, slightly more if you take them somewhere

2.  Invite the family over for a dinner she doesn’t have to cook

Any meal I don’t have to cook or clean up for is a blessing.  A big blessing.  There are days I have 4 loads of dishes to run through our dishwasher.

3.  Clean something for her

why I need a maid

There is ALWAYS something dirty.  With most of the family home all day long, there will always be something to clean.  Or several somethings

What a homeschool Mom wants for Christmas that might cost more

1.  To go to a homeschool convention

Homeschool Convention Locations, Dates and Speakers

No matter how long she’s been homeschooling, she always thinks there’s more she can learn/buy/find/explore.  I’ve only been to one small convention and I LOVED it.  I went by myself and had a nice quiet night with no kids asking for anything.  I leisurely browsed the vendor hall.  I can’t wait to go to Great Homeschool Conventions {affiliate link} this spring. Sitting and listening to Michael Medved (fellow history buff), Steve Lambert (the Five in a Row guy), or Matt Walsh (blogger gone viral) will be fun. But, it’s the VENDOR HALL I can’t wait for. This is one of the few times I enjoy shopping.

Side note, “But,” you say, “I don’t live near any of the sites.”  Think about how much fun it would be to plan the vacation for going.  I’m having fun thinking about it.

2.  A maid for a day

Okay, you don’t want to clean someone else’s house, don’t blame you.  How about you rent a maid service for them for a day?  My Mom did this once for me, and it was really cool.  Or hire a teenager to help for the day.

3.  Manicure, Massage, Meal with friends

I just had to get that last “M” one in.  These can all be costly, but a well deserved treat.  I know any homeschooling Mom would love these.

What would you add in?  I’ve only given you nine ideas, but they’re all ones that are sounding mighty good to me.

I’m also joining up with the ladies from iHomeschool Network for even more Gift giving ideas!

  1. You know, a working Mom could benefit from some of those things. Luckily, I got a cleaning lady for Christmas a few years back, and it’s a gift that just keeps on giving.

    1. That is! As I was writing this list, I was thinking a working Mom would enjoy most of these as well.

  2. Sounds wonderful to me!

I’m not a homeschooling mom, but I would love all of these, including the homeschooling convention. I am pretty excited about going to BlogHer in July!
