Superman and Batman turn five today!

I canโt believe my big boys are turning five today!

This is me in theory about a week before they were born, or at least thatโs when it was uploaded to the computer. If so, this must be right before I was hospitalized for high blood pressure.
You guys were so eager to be born you started trying to come out right around 24 weeks. I went to the hospital about 5 different times for false labor, and finally, they put me on anti-contraction medicine. Then of course you decided to make me miserable by making me be on bed rest for FIVE WEEKS! FIVE WEEKS I say!
And one week of that was in the hospital. Do you know how hard it is to sleep when youโve got two baby monitors attached and a monitor for contractions, and an IV port, and a blood pressure cuff hooked up?
But finally, you came. The anesthesiologist had thought he was going to get a well-deserved rest after helping deliver five babies, but no you insisted you were going to come that day. First, you drove my blood pressure so high the doctor was quite worried and then you decided you couldnโt wait until 4 and had to come at 12:32.

Superman, you were born first. Followed very shortly thereafter by Batman. Originally your names were going to be switched, but in the womb, I decided Superman was definitely a Superman and not a Batman. Superman, you liked to kick me a lot. Here you are shortly after you were born. You couldnโt stay in the room with me the first day because I had the air conditioner up so high from my medicine. You couldnโt hold your temperature.

Batman, you sat on your brotherโs head. I have the sonogram picture somewhere to prove it. Even in the womb, you were trying to be in charge. Iโd like to remind you that you are still not the Mommy. But, you were and still are a sweet child. I love your hugs and your cuddles.

For the first few months, you were both in the same crib because you didnโt sleep well when separated. This is still true to this day. We use separation as a punishment for you, and itโs a fairly effective tool.

Being the stubborn boys that you are you refused to eat solid food or walk until you were almost 18 months. And then while Jeff and I were out of town and your Nana and Granddad were watching you, thatโs when you started walking. Traitors.

You were in your first wedding before you were two, and you cried your whole way down the aisle. Batman, youโre the one with the serious look. Superman, youโre the one crying. Youโre still touch and go on this whole going somewhere without Mom and Dad. Weโll see how you do in a few months when youโre in your third wedding.

You always have tried to take care of your sister whether she wanted you to or notโฆโฆ Of course, now it seems to be more of the โNo Princess, thatโs not yoursโ type of taking care ofโฆ.. Weโre working on you guys and your whole anti-girl thing. Now in about 10 years, I want you to be anti-girl. GIRLS bad, no dating girls.
Superman

Superman about two years ago you figured out there were these things called superheroes. Now, this may be because we showed you Batman and Justice League cartoons nonstop, but still. Once you did there was no going back. Your first favorite was Superman, hence the nickname. From there youโve grown to love all of the Justice League, Spiderman, clone troopers (hint you might be getting a helmet), and your new favorite BLUE ARROW. Your own invention. Blue Arrow, as I have learned, has a plane, and he lives somewhere else. He can shoot fire, and he shoots arrows. He sometimes has a hat, and sometimes doesnโt. He has a bow. And I have to make his costume. Oh, and Blue Arrow fights bad guys. And Superman, โI have a plan, that sound like a good plan Mommy?โ Maybe today we will do your plan, though I canโt guarantee Iโll do your plan if itโs โletโs go get toysโ or โletโs go eat ice cream at the place with the toys.โ
Batman

Batman, I have to admit youโre probably nothing like your nickname. Youโre too happy. But, heโs your first love, and heโs your baby and much chewed on doll. Even if you may have other loves now, Green Arrow, Green Knight (your answer to Blue Arrow), Anakin, Dinosaur Train. I love the way you say Anakin, it cracks me up. I love to hear your stories about the different guys you have and your long complicated stories about your pictures.

I have to say, your sleeping style hasnโt changed much in five years. Though, you have gotten sneakier about your attempts to not sleep.

Sigh, I guess youโre allowed to grow up. I tried to convince you that you werenโt and you told me, โMommy we have to get big.โ As Mrs. Darling said, โWhy canโt you always stay little?โ
Happy Birthday my big boys!

Memories of the Boys’ birthday week
Yesterday I posted a quick tutorial of how to host a pirate party. Now I give you my memories of the day, or I should say days. We started out their celebration on their birthday on Thursday and it lasted until Saturday.

Poor Superman was sick on his birthday, so we spent the day at home with a nice warm fire, that wasnโt really necessary, but it made him feel better.
While poor Superman lounged on the couch and produced copious amounts of laundry for me to do, Batman and Princess came over and made a mess helped me with the cake.
And of course, Batman licked the bowl clean afterward. I didnโt quite trust his cleaning skills, so it still went in the dishwasher.
Princess kindly iced the cake. I took one of the cakes I made that day over to small group, and the other one stayed home with us.
And yes, Batman is wearing his collared shirt backward. Sigh, what can you do?
We could tell Superman still wasnโt feeling one hundred percent because he didnโt even eat the cake. It was really rather sad.
The next day they opened presents. I have a hard enough time getting the boy to stay laying down when heโs sick, if Iโd added in any presents the boy would have been jumping off the walls. We also went to the grape place, also known as Olive Garden, and Superman happily ate his Daddy soup. I think it was the first solid food heโd eaten in over a day.

Princess sleeping at Olive Garden. Sheโll do this. Sheโll insist she doesnโt need a nap, and go and go and go, and then sheโll fall asleep in the car, and not wake up.
We found some cool wind-up flashlights at Academy, no worrying about batteries wearing down.
So, the partyโฆ.. It was a blast. As always I wasnโt quite as organized as Iโd like to be, but I just need to realize organization is not my strong suit.

The treasure hunt was an unmitigated success. The pinata afterward was more or less successful, but it did take them a while to whack it down. But, man they did have fun. We did have to do a lot of herding the cats, I mean kids. Itโs a lot like herding cats. Apparently, preschoolers have this secret death wish to be hit by a wooden stickโฆโฆ.
In real life that yellow looked a lot more like sand. The island was made by taking the part you cut off when youโre leveling the cake (from one of the earlier cakes) and putting it on top of the blue frosting. It was a WILD success!
They happily tore through their presents and were barely restrained from opening them right then and there. Family stayed after and we had a fun night of eating fondue, with lots and lots of fondue pots. At the end, I had 3 very tired kidsโฆ..

And a tired Daddyโฆโฆ.
And hopefully, Iโll get a chance to write the rest of my posts for this week sometime soon. I hate the weeks where my schedule is thrown off and Iโm writing it all piecemeal like this. I feel rather harried and scattered. Oh well, a small price to pay for fun memories like this.

What a lovely way to commemorate your precious boys' birthday! Wishing your boys a blessed birthday. Here is the song we sing in church:

Happy Birthday to your boys! I also had to be on bed rest. 5 days at the hospital and 6 weeks at home. I had a Trebutaline pump in my leg and had to do Matria monitoring twice a day! I sure don't miss that!
