I’m still in shock we are almost two decades into this decade. I still have vivid memories of the “In the Year 2000” skits on the Conan O’Brien show…. After doing this amazing job last month with writing weekly summaries for my January 2019 homeschooling, that did not happen for February. February flew by with sickness hitting us hard in the middle of it.

February 2019 Homeschooling
This was our good week in February.
Working my way around the collage. That’s Princess reading and walking in a parking lot, first I love her Mad Hatter hat, and second I’m wildly amused by this because that’s what I looked like in junior high. She’s reading Demigods and Magicians, the collection of Percy Jackson and Kane Chronicles short stories.
Next to that is the super cousins’ picture, with all of them wearing their Thing shirts. I bought Thing shirts for the cousins at Universal Studios, and then when I got home I ordered some for my kids. I LOVE the Thing 1, 2, and 3 shirts. We were having a going away meal for my aunt.
The kids have been obsessively watching the MRE review channel, ever since I found that channel when I wrote about World War 2 rations. So Jeff ordered us a crate of MREs, and we went on a hike to try them out. All my kids had a blast trying out the different meals and generally having lots of fun with it.
I’ve started a new plan for the kids having stupid grammar mistakes, 5 push-ups for each word they get wrong (you know, those really obvious homonym problems). They’re either going to get very good at grammar quickly, or they’re going to become very strong.
Princess is working through Mr. D’s Life Skills class, and it’s been fun to see what she is learning.
And the most important one to Jeff, we finally got our shipment of Forbidden Fortress. We backed it on Kickstarter a few years ago, and have been waiting very impatiently for it to get in.
February week 2
We started the week with Disciple Now, a weekend retreat for the youth group, and afterward, I had the 7th-grade girls over to watch movies, and it was hilarious to see their reactions to You’ve Got Mail and the differences in technology.
We got a smattering of snow, just enough to be cold, but not enough to do anything.
Then everyone got sick. We were sick for a week straight, so I took the chance to read lots of books. I read most of that pile while sick, White Chocolate Moments is the only book there I didn’t read. I love Diana Wynne Jones, so I happily read through Darklord of Derkholm, and then got out the sequel Year of the Griffin, and then powered through Eight Days of Luke. Then I made Jeff get them on Audible, only I couldn’t buy Eight Days of Luke because I can’t find an audiobook version of it. I’m super bummed because it’s a fun version of Norse mythology, unlike Magnus Chase whose main character drives me nuts.
Jeff, the only healthy person in our house on Valentine’s Day gave all of us the cutest caramel apple bears. Isn’t it so cute?
In the top corner, there’s a picture of baby turtles with raspberries on them. I’m having fun exchanging memes and random pictures with Princess through text messages. That’s an unexpected joy of my child having a cell phone. Of course it also allows me to tease the kids with random things that amuse me.
And the final picture is Jeff gluing figures together from Forbidden Fortress. He’s gone through several bottles of the gel glue. I’ve made a lot of Hobby Lobby runs for more as I drop the boys off at Kung Fu.
February Week 3
We finally got to play Forbidden Fortress! It was super hard, but we had a BLAST! I can’t wait to play through more missions and try out some more character classes.
Princess’ niffler came with us grocery shopping, and that greatly amused me. Next to it, you’ll see Princess’ Valentine’s Day present, some earrings from Gumball Jackpot. In the center is a dress I made for a birthday party we went to.
Bottom row, my brand new box of books from Beautiful Feet books, it’s the Medieval History high school pack, and we’ve just started digging into them. This month we’re reading through parts of Beowulf, Canterbury Tales, and Magna Charta.
I’m quite amused by Batman’s picture here with him threatening me with his Valentine’s Day gift, a new Nerf weapon. Just wait for next month, there are so many more Nerf guns in my house now.
My kids had quite a lot of commentary for their Viking quiz. Quite a lot…
