Cardline Globetrotter game

September 11, 2015 Ticia 7 Comments

You know what makes this homeschool Mom happy?  When I find a product that has multiple uses and everyone likes it.  This game is great for homeschool geography and all of my kids like it.  This is a triple win.

Cardline Globetrotters

How to play Cardline Globetrotter

Are you ready?  This is going to be one of the simplest game explanations you will ever see on this blog.  Cardline Globetrotters* (it’s also available at Rainbow Resource Center, which is like the UBER shopping stop for homeschoolers, the price is sometimes better here) is one of the fastest games we play.

Cardline Globetrotters

You start with a single country and how you’re organizing the countries.  Will it be by size, population, economy, or pollution levels?

Then each player receives 7 cards, or maybe 5, I guess it depends how long you want the game to be.

On your turn you pick one of your cards and attempt to place the country on the line.  Is Qatar bigger or smaller than Syria? As more cards are added the game becomes more difficult.

How we’re using Cardline Globetrotter for geography

Cardline Globetrotters great game for geography

I mentioned all of my kids enjoy this game.  That’s an unusual feat because Princess is not a gamer.  But this game doesn’t feel quite so competitive as most games, and you don’t feel like a fool if you don’t know the answer.

But, we are all learning a lot each time we play the game.  I hadn’t realized how big Tibet was before we played the game.  News reports make it seem small.  I don’t know why, but it’s HUGE!  I mean it’s like 3,000,000 miles.  Yes that is SIX zeros.  Monaco by contrast is miniscule.  None of us would have known this without the game.

Expect to see it come up a lot as a game played.

What we’ve been up to these past couple of weeks

visiting Aunt Tara

We visited Aunt Tara up in Iowa, which is why I was a bit non-communicado for the last week.  This also meant we played lots and lots of board games.

  • Smash UP
  • Justice League Axis of Villains Game*
  • Shadows of Brimstone: City of the Ancients*
  • Wiz-War*
  • King of Tokyo
  • Kings of Israel
  • Cardline Globetrotter

I’m sure there were more, but those are the ones I specifically remember.  The ones with asterisks Tara owns and the boys now WANT to own them.  They have great plans to buy Shadows of Brimstone and all of  its expansions.

We also took Princess out for tea and getting our nails done (I shared that on instagram).  And I played a fun RPG with Tara and her cousins.  We defeated a dragon, it was close, but we won.

meeting Heather

Then I got back into town and played board games with Heather from Cultivated Lives.  While the kids had a blast terrorizing the house.

  • Transamerica (which she is very disappointed to find out is out of print)
  • Dominion* (which I lost hugely)
  • and some other game which I’m not remembering offhand

This was followed by more RPGs on Monday where we did not fight a dragon but were playing Indiana Jones and trying to solve the great archeology mystery.

funschooling

And school this week was funschooling about explorers, and a few more games.

Tonight we’re watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix* because the kids have finished reading it, so expect a Harry Potter movie night post soon.

Sounds fab! I do wish we played more games, but for some reason we’re really not a game playing family.
