A few months ago we went to Zilker Park and looked at their fairy houses exhibit.
They were gorgeous, and we loved every minute of examining them. The detail and thought put into them is amazing.
What I loved even more? The kids immediately went home and started putting together their own fairy houses.
They gathered twigs, mud, so much mud, grass, acorn caps and set to work.
While their houses don’t have the skill and finesse of the ones at Zilker, I treasure them so much more.
They have my kids personality. Their interests in them. They made a princess, trees, dogs, ladders. All sorts of great homes.
It was great to see them playing like this.
Do your kids ever take ideas and run with it? I think mine spent a good week making stuff for their fairy houses.
I love fairy houses! Never thought of trying to make one though – I bet my daughter would love that!
That reminds me of when A and G were younger, and took their window screen off, so they could place a cap full of sugar water on the sill to attract fairies. It’s a good thing they never thought of mud houses – I can just imagine what I would have found in their closet!
My kids do stuff like this, and I LOVE it!
My kids were just in the backyard tonight with neighbor friends making fairy houses. It has been a favorite pastime on and off for the past few years. My husband and I were just discussing that we don’t remember anyone making these when we were kids. We hypothesized that there must have been something culturally that made them popular with today’s kids (maybe a book or movie?), but we didn’t know what.
This is so awesome, and posts like this always make me wish Anna had a sibling or a close friend living walking distance from us. She only does this kind of things with playmates.
We made fairy houses too. Such a creative activity!
Isn’t it funny how kids take an idea and run with it, and it might not even be the thing you thought they’d get so excited with? It love it when that happens. 🙂 Love the fairy houses, wonder if my gentlemen would build some? We shall see!
We’ve never done a whole house. My girls enjoy making dioramas for little people so I’m sure they would enjoy this!
What fun! Looks like such a fun project!
I love your fairy mud huts! I have shared this on my Magical Things Fairy Day Roundup post.
