5 Little Pumpkins thumbprint craft
We all know the poem 5 Little Pumpkins, and how much fun it is to read. Well, I decided to make the 5 Little Pumpkins into a homeschool math (Future Ticia 2024 who is updating this says to herself I should make a landing page for math) set, and an art project all at once, and my kids LOVED it for a homeschool Halloween lesson.
Supplies for 5 Little Pumpkins Craft
(Amazon links are affiliate links): 5 Little Pumpkins printable, orange stamp pad (this one ACTUALLY is washable, unlike some others, marker tower, Fiskars scissors (yes I am a scissors snob), and glue stick (and a glue snob)
5 Little Pumpkins craft project and math lesson
On each page, we made thumbprint pumpkins with the number of pumpkins that are on that page.
So, on the line saying “The second one said, “There are witches in the air” we put two pumpkins on, and happily drew faces.
As we went along we found the matching math problem and glued it on the page. We finished up the math lesson by reciting the poem several times and saying the math problems.
And, what’s a lesson about pumpkins without decorating some? My kids have been begging to do this forEVER! You’d think they never get to do fun stuff the way they talk.
So, they happily sat there drawing on their pumpkins and decorating them. And Batman, being Batman had to do it his own way. He wanted a bat on his. He was dead set it had to look a certain way.
Future Ticia 2024 decided not to include the picture, not that there was anything wrong with it, but I could see him someday deciding he didn’t want the picture on the internet, so I’m deleting it now. The difference between how we view the internet in 2010 versus how we view the internet in 2024.
He hunted down the bat cookie cutter he’d used earlier, traced it, and colored his bat. Then he cut it out and glued it on his pumpkin. So, on one side it has a face, and on the other side is a bat (As I update this post 5 years later, he is still like this). Then they proudly carried their pumpkins out to the front yard and set them right smack in the middle of the driveway. Which I corrected them on because that would have ended with sad crying kids as their pumpkins were run over.
The pumpkins now happily are sitting on the side of the driveway as a cheery greeting to all who pass by.
The random skeleton parts sticking out of the bushes are not so cheery, but the kids are happy they have something scary.

Great projects. They look completely happy doing them!
My little Sassyfras pretends to “read” The Five Little Pumpkin poem off of any piece of paper and then asks if you want her to read it again…you have to say yes b/c it's just too cute.
Thanks again for another printable. Very nice activity! Sorry I didn't receive your email, please try to send it again. You are the winner! I guess I should of asked you if you changed your mind. Congratulations!! Your kids are going to love the shoes.
The pumpkins look great!
I love their pumpkins!
That is SO cute! Clever idea.
I've been thinking with all the skeleton parts sticking out, around our neighborhood, maybe it's time for some osteology (that's a word, isn't it?).
Thanks for letting me share this in my Halloween roundup that will go live tonight!
